Community Screening: The Librarians

A Film Screening & Panel Discussion on Intellectual Freedom

The Jackson Hole community is invited to a special free screening of The Librarians on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM at the Center Theater, presented by Teton County Library Foundation & Friends, Teton County Library, Better Wyoming, and Jackson Hole International Film Festival.

This timely documentary brings national conversations about book banning and intellectual freedom into local focus, creating space for learning, dialogue, and community action.

About the Film

The Librarians explores the urgent moment facing libraries across the United States as an unprecedented wave of book banning emerges in Texas, Florida, and beyond. As these challenges escalate, librarians find themselves on the front lines, becoming unlikely defenders of free expression, access to information, and democratic values.

Through deeply personal stories, the film follows librarians under siege alongside community members and young readers who step up to defend the freedom to read. What unfolds is both a chilling cautionary tale and a powerful rallying cry, one that highlights the everyday individuals standing up for intellectual freedom.

The film made its world premiere at Sundance and went on to screen at SXSW and the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, earning recognition for its thoughtful, urgent storytelling.

A Conversation That Continues

Following the screening, attendees are invited to stay for a panel discussion exploring how these national efforts impact library patrons, staff, and communities across the country, including right here in Wyoming. Panelists will discuss how community members can support libraries, defend access to information, and engage meaningfully at the local level.

This event is an opportunity not only to watch a powerful film but to come together as a community to better understand the role libraries play in safeguarding knowledge, curiosity, and civic engagement.
